At the beach
My grandparents lived in New York before the Great Depression. I believe they lived in Manhattan although it may have been elsewhere in the city. The only census data I have comes from 1930 and that shows them in Manhattan.
It's clear from the volume of photos that they liked going to the beach. I think they preferred Rockaway Beach in Brooklyn. The caption on this photo reads (in French), "Far Rockaway - the last Sunday before my departure for Winnipeg the Monday, June 1923".
